Assassin's Creed Unveils Surprising AoT Crossover for Holiday Season
In a bizarre collaboration that challenges usual predictions, Ubisoft has revealed an in-game collaboration between Assassin's Creed Shadows and the renowned anime series Attack on Titan. The surprising holiday event continues from November 25 through December 22, including free extra story content for Shadows players.
Strange Questline Revealed
According to the formal release, "A mysterious encounter pulls heroes Naoe and Yasuke into a new mission, where hints of banned ceremonies and fearsome metamorphoses reverberate through the darkness." The storyline introduces a "oddly attired woman named Ada" who charges the characters with journeying into the Gemstone Grotto—a key location from Attack on Titan—to liberate her companion from a hidden sect.
The mission focuses on "bizarre experiments and a terrifying foe" and is accessible to all players who have gained access to the Yasuke character.
Familiar Places and Metamorphoses
The teaser showcases the Hidden Temple from Attack on Titan recreated as the Crystal Cave. This important location was earlier where the Reiss royal family passed down the Founding Titan ability through generations. The preview finishes with a dramatic sequence showing a character, likely the prisoner, transforming into a Titan that looms over Naoe and Yasuke.
Special Items and Extra Features
Players who successfully complete the mission will acquire an special katana in addition to multiple items secreted throughout the area in secret chests. The update also contains purchasable Attack on Titan item packs, including:
- Titan-inspired costume for Yasuke
- Mikasa outfit for Naoe
- Unique arms
- Survey Corps steed
Newest Free Story Update
This update also adds the game's newest free story addition, titled "The Mystery." This lighthearted mission partners Naoe and Yasuke as they swap signature skills: Naoe introduces a theatrical variation of Yasuke's war kick, while Yasuke acquires non-fatal stealth takedowns. Faithful to its name, "A Puzzlement" also features a new environmental puzzle that may finally clarify some unresolved questions from the main storyline.
Previous Anime Collaborations
This marks hardly the first time the Assassin's Creed franchise has crossed over with popular anime series. The series formerly featured a 2020 cross-promotional story connecting Assassin's Creed: Valhalla with Makoto Yukimura's Vinland Saga. Furthermore, Valhalla unofficially featured a quest that unmistakably referenced the famous series One-Punch Man.
